Final_Project

For my final project I was thinking of making a character wake up from a blackout and walk away from the scene.

I downloaded the model and animation from mixamo and used Garage_Footage Video 4 as my footage.

Phase - 1:

Imported the video to nuke and used write node to get the image sequence

Phase - 2:

Making the image sequence to Undistorted image, by creating a STMap

Phase - 3:

After making the STMap for my footage, using write node got the undistorted image sequence.

Phase - 4:

Camera_Tracking, after tracking the image sequence, solving it and using auto tracks to make the error rate of the tracks less than 1, I then created the scene, set ground planes, used the measurements given to us to scale to real world size, after that used the WriteGeo node to export .exr file to import it to Maya.

Maya Workflow:

Set the Project Window and imported the scene into Maya, imported the image plane sequence and brought in my character from mixamo, at first I tried to add just the animations into Maya but when I tried to merge the animations, it was difficult to get them in a correct sequence, then I imported my character in T-pose and then imported the animations, this time it worked perfectly. After adding and merging my animations, I then linked my textures to my character using file path editor.

Used Photoshop to create a HDRI and then used the HDRI as the skydome for light and set the skydome to match the image plane.

Added render layers, I made 2 render layers one is character layer and the other layer is shadows for the character. Added AOV's, I added 4 AOV's they are diffuse direct, diffuse indirect, specular direct and specular indirect.

After I was good with all the work done I then rendered using Arnold, if I would have used my laptop to render this my laptop would have burned down, instead rendered it in the university lab workstation. It took about 1-1.5hrs to render.

Nuke Workflow:

Brought the character exr file and the show layer exr file to nuke and proceeded to colour grade and colour correct them.

Phase - 5A:

I colour graded and colour corrected my character to match the background

Phase - 5B:

Colour corrected my shadow layer and added blur to try to created more shadow like image

After colour correcting and colour grading of character and shadow layer, merged them and used merge node to merge the 2 layers with the image sequence

Final Phase:

After everything was done, I was very happy with how it turned out to be and then used write node to render them into .mp4 file.

Creating Breakdown Video, this was my first time using After Effects, I did my breakdown video after seeing the Tutorial video shared on Canvas. My Breakdown video contains original footage, colour grade, colour correct, CG elements , shadows and the final rendered video.

I would like to thank Richard and Jamie for guiding us through the whole course time giving me feedback on what to do and suggesting ideas that can be incorporated to further make the video look good.
