Week - 4 3D Workspace in Nuke
This week we will be focusing on working in 2D and 3D space, 3D projection and Matte Painting.
First I brought in a Jpeg of a subway and linked it to the viewer and pressed Tab so that it switches to 3D view. Add a 3d object in this case we are using cube as the 3D object for the texture of the cube I added a Checkerboard node and connected the img to the Checkerboard node.
When we come back to 2D space we can see that the cube does not show up in order for it to be seen we use ScalineRender node - When connected to a Scene node, the ScanlineRender node renders all the objects and lights connected to that scene from the perspective of the Camera connected to the Cam input.
Connect Cam input to Camera node, the Bg input to Footage and the obj/scn to the scene. Now connecting the scanlinerender to the viewer now we can see the cube. Now create a card (geometry) node in the node graph and connect the card node into the scene. Add a grid node to the Card now the card looks like a grid.
Rotate the card node in the 3D space in the node properties so that the card is lies flat on the ground plane and then switch back to 2D space. Now scale the card node. Click on the camera node and in the camera node properties, adjust the scale and rotation to get a better fit to the ground plane. Add a project 3D node in the node graph. Add a cube (geometry) node in the node graph. Switch to 2D view and now try to scale, rotate or transform into the pillar as reference.
Switching to 3D and edit geo of which I linked to Both the camera and the scene I then created another sphere geometry and attached a checker png image to the sphere as a surface texture. Now position the sphere behing the pillar in 3D space, we see that the sphere now blends behind the pillar.
In the afternoon session, we focused on Matte painting, we see the mountain landscape 3D tracking exercise, After starting a new file I adjusted the display size to 3840x2160 on the node tree, brought in two read geo nodes which allowed me to bring in two low poly shapes as Maya assets into the project, I then brought in a scene, camera, and a cam scanline render node into the node and linked them one to another before linking them to the viewer, we then switched to 3D space.
The complete node tree of this exercise,
Inorder for us to see the footage I added a write node and linked the image node to display and the output is as shown below
